IT employees in different countries collaborate with one another in real time using state-of-the art telepresence rooms at offices in New York, Houston, Woodbridge, N.J., London, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. They also use HD-quality videoconferencing systems built into conference rooms in offices around the world. During the past year, IT rolled out on-demand desktop and laptop videoconferencing, allowing employees at their desks or on the road to use the webcams in their computers to meet face-to-face with teams stationed elsewhere. Company with a view The company's corporate headquarters are on the Avenue of the Americas in midtown Manhattan, in recently remodeled space on the top five floors of a 42-story building. That office features an open floor plan that affords every employee a view of Manhattan, and a cafe on the 42nd floor has a glass wall that looks out over the city. Hess' largest office is in Houston, where the company employs 1,200 people. There, preparations are under way to move from offices high in the Allen Center downtown to the new, larger Hess tower, which is situated on a 12-acre parcel of land that features a lake, bandstands and other venues for public performances, a children's area, and multiple recreational areas. The new building is expected to be LEED-certified in recognition of its sustainable design, which includes the installation of 10 power-generating wind turbines on the roof. State-of-the-art videoconferencing facilities are available on every floor, and high-speed computing equipment will support the supercomputing-level requirements of engineers and geologists.
